I have just finished another couple of Zoom Drawalong for the World Wildlife Fund - lovely group of people who did very well drawing a rhino and zebra family.

Zebra Family for WWF

  • I was at Fleet Art Society this afternoon for a demonstration portrait in oils. Good attendance with interesting questions / comments. I sent an image of the completed painting to them a few weeks later

  • A full house at Leatherhead Institute today for my talk “take 6 : LAND”. Always a good audience with good questions and discussions. Six different artists from different countries and eras, all with very different ways of being inspired by the land, from Claude to Goldsworthy. Got many comments from people who had not been aware of how important the historical context is when you look at these works.

  • “PICASSO The Draughtsman” twice this week - Guildford and Leatherhead, both went well

  • Lecturing to a new group yesterday - The Friends of Guildford House. They wanted to hear about Velazquez - one of my favourites, so a pleasure.

  • Down to the New Forest recently to give a demonstration of Still Life in Oils. They were interested in the narrative possibilities of Still Life and how I had developed the idea. It went well on the day and they have re-booked me for their next programme. I sent an image of the completed work

  • Judging the “Natural World” competition at Chichester yesterday. Have done this several times and so it is good to see how various individuals are progressing when you do the critique. some new winners so that was also pleasing for everyone.

  • Back at Leatherhead for the Art Society this time - part 1 of “PAINTING & PHOTOGRAPHY”. Part 2 in the autumn

  • Lecturing about two lovely artists in Merton tonight - JOAN EARDLEY and ANNE REDPATH - For Love Of Paint”. Always enjoy going there

  • Something a bit different last night - judging a competition between artists and photographers - very tricky to do but enjoyable and exhausting

  • Enjoyable lecture at Leatherhead today for the Community Association - “EXPRESSIONISM - It’s Personal”.

+ A double header at Molesey - demonstration in colour pencils (often overlooked), followed ups by a workshop the next day. Always look forward to this annual event.

  • Tying in with the John Singer Sargent exhibition at the Tate, my lecture on him “JOHN SINGER SARGENT : Facility, Fame, Failure” was another sell out at Guildford Institute with a further 20 attendees online. Great atmosphere in the room and lovely feedback afterwards.

  • Taking part in a couple of exhibitions just now - APPart at Godalming and Farnham Art Society Spring show - sold a portrait head “With Pearls”

  • I’m off to Devon tomorrow to give a demonstration and then run a workshop the next day. Looking forward to it Will take in Hauser & Wirth and Messums West on the way back.

  • Had two very successful and enjoyable sessions in Devon - using music as the springboard for viisual art with a great variety of interpretations - just what you would hope for. Saw the work of ceramicist Adam Buick at Hauser & Wirth “Make” and also at Messums West - what a wonderful location. Finally saw some Laurence Edwards sculptures “in the flesh”. Very moving work.
